Both speaking and listening skills are emphasized in this course. The teacher will also go into depths with various topics by reading and writing in class.
Our English conversation course is designed to let students interact comfortably with foreigners on a regular basis. Many of our students are reluctant to speak in a foreign language, and we feel that it may be partly attributed to the lack of confidence by having little social interactions with foreigners. The English conversation course has been created to provide a friendly atmosphere for students to learn in a purely English speaking environment. Foreign English teachers lecture with North American teaching styles and make students feel like they are in a different part of the world. By allowing students to have the chance to speak freely in English, they progress quickly and learn to appreciate other cultures around the world. Most importantly, these teachers give them another perspective in learning, shifting their viewpoints to another angle.
Currently, English conversation classes are held twice a week for Grade 7 and 8 students. Each lesson is approximately an hour long. Most of the Grade 9, 10 and 11 have conversation classes once a week. Grade 9 direct promote classes 10, 11 and 12 meet twice a week. Grade 11 students in 1101 and 1102, the humanity and social science group, also meet twice a week. Grade 11 students in 1110 and 1112 meet twice a week as well.
We assess how well students do in the conversation class by giving them GEPT styled listening exams. Grade 7 and 8 students are given midterms and finals, while grade 9, 10 and 11 are given finals only.
